EXCEPTIONAL NEWS FOR THE HORSE RACING INDUSTRY: U.S. TARIFF EXEMPTIONS FOR CANADA

To Our Horsemen,

The White House released a fact sheet yesterday outlining new tariffs and trade policies affecting various countries.

The full details can be accessed here: LINK.

We are pleased to report exceptional news for Canada and Mexico. Both countries will be exempt from most tariffs, and the existing United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will remain intact. This means that, for the horse racing industry, thoroughbred horses classified under:

  • Code 0101.21.00 (Pure-bred breeding animals)

  • Code 0101.29.00.20 (Other horses for racing)

will continue to travel duty-free between the U.S. and Canada, maintaining the same privileges as before.

The industry will continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates as necessary. We encourage all horsemen to report any issues encountered at the borders. Additionally, we remind everyone to ensure they are traveling with the appropriate documentation confirming the horse's foaling location (Canada or the U.S.).

For any concerns or further clarification, please contact us.
